Every summer for the last 3 years, New York’s legendary South Street Seaport host’s the Village Voice’s 4Knots Music Festival, continuing 13 years of musical awesomeness. Music by the sea is like making out in the international space station, a good thing turned awesome due to a stirring setting.
This year, I got to tag along with my editor from The Expeditioner, Matt Stabile.
We arrived by station wagon.
We threw out the Buick’s anchor and then made our way through the masses.
After battling a giant panda bear who tried to eat us, we boarded a boat where, wonders of wonderful, an open bar was. We were, as they say, ON A BOAT! And we were drinking for free listening to music, wondering why we were so lucky to have life shine so brilliantly on our day.
After a jovial game of “Matt Walk the Plank,” I found myself wondering on the boat in and out of groups, creepily taking photos of couples ashore making out.
Did Sherry Wan find what she was looking for?
Were these people having a good time?
From the looks of it yes, HELLS YEAH!
When the pirate ship came, brandishing cutlasses and rapiers, it seemed they had come to burn and pillage.
But then they turned their ears to the stages, and heard sweet, beautiful music.
The music spoke to the pirates inner pirate hearts and they sheathed their swords for the remainder of the festival. Pillaging and burning could wait a day.
Sepia, use it if you got it.
