Guatemala from Nicaragua

2:12pm: I’ve just finished a run up a mountain, ate a bean sandwich, slayed a dragon fruit, cleaned up my messes and at the moment I’m still in running attire, smoking a cigarette, listening to Kids on the Run by The Tallest Man on Earth, burning incense called Meditation. These are al ways to procrastinate getting back to work after a three weeks of travels through Nicaragua, and a touch in El Tunco, El Salvador. It’s nice to be back, but there is always the yippy fear that perhaps I have forgotten how to write/use a computer/search for cat memes.

I need to write to earn enough to fly back to the US by July, so though I should really be doing the sort of writing that brings home the proverbial bacon, I am turning to my three-week neglected blog because it seems the best part of the pool of my working life to dive back into.

A week or so ago, I wrote something in my “bad dog notebook” while walking upon a chirping jungle road on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. I was looking for crayons, but instead only found colored pencils and mangos. I wrote, “Don’t write with the intention of people liking what you have written, write to communicate with people on worthwhile levels through words.”

So over the next weeks, I am going to write about my trip through Nicaragua keeping that thought. I’ve been thinking a bit lately about the role of the writer, and the responsibility of writing for readers.

My three weeks in Nicaragua, now just ended, seems filled with months of memories—the usual sign of a successful trip. I’ll be sharing that trip here and also doing some feature pieces on The Expeditioner (just as soon as my editor Matt Stabile gives me back the fruit snacks he stole from me last time I was in NYC).

Also this week, will be Travel Write Sing’s first giveaway (woot woot!), a meme contest where you could win the Pick-Pocket Proof Adventure Travel Pants from Clothing Arts ($109.95) or their Ultimate Travel Shirt.

Welp, happy to be writing to you rabble rousers again, stay tuned this week, win stuff, etc.
